This debut novel is an amazing read, I devoured it and got completely caught up in the lives of Kate, Violet and Altha. The stories of the three women, spanning different periods of history are woven together brilliantly through the book. A bewitching read celebrating female empowerment, resilience and strength - I couldn't put it down!
Out now in hardback!
Follow Bonnie Montgomery as she strives to solve the mystery of a suspicious death at the Hornville Museum disguised as Montgomery Bonbon - a well dressed gentleman detective with a strange foreign accent and moustache.
Bonnie Montgomery is resourceful, perceptive and gutsy and is determined to solve the mystery before the inept police detective on the case. She and Grampa work together, interviewing dodgy witnesses and finding clues, all the while maintaining Bonnie’s alter ego as Montgomery Bonbon, even when, at one point the moustache goes AWOL and has to be replaced by a hairy caterpillar!
A great story - perfect for readers who love a good mystery and above all lots of fun!
Elizabeth Zott, a chemist, is not your average woman - in fact she would be the first to point out that there is no such thing! Set in the early 1960’s, the all-male team at Hastings Research Institute with whom she works don’t take her, or her career, seriously, and Elizabeth’s life takes a different direction from that which she was expecting.
Elizabeth is a wonderful heroine who refuses to accept the inequality of the time. She refuses to be quashed and as reluctant star of her new cooking TV show, she dares women to question and challenge the status quo.
Elizabeth is an inspirational protagonist and I absolutely loved this joyous, moving, life affirming story. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough and wholeheartedly recommend it!
This is a swashbuckling tale set in the 18th century during the golden age of piracy in the Caribbean. Eleven year old Abigail Buckler lives a life of privilege with her father When pirates attack, Abigail’s life as she knows it changes forever, and she must fight to survive and learn what’s really important.
Packed with historical details about the Atlantic slave trade, the book is a great adventure for pirate lover’s everywhere.
What a story!
This is heart-warming, bold, funny and spirited. It is a compulsive tale about blended families and how to find room in your heart for new love and new life. The two main characters are thrown together as their parents fall in love. Zofia, a whirlwind of a girl, apparently confident and self assured, doesn’t want Tom in her house or her life. Tom still timid, even though his Dad left two years ago, cannot cope with Zofia and her loud, tumultuous moods and hates her just as much. When the two learn they are to have a new sibling, both wish the stupid baby had never happened. But then Tom’s mum becomes ill, and it looks horribly likely that their wish will come true.
A story about learning to trust, letting go and working together. I loved this book and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.
This is a fantastic and empowering story by best selling and award winning Emma Carroll and Lauren Child!
Bridie is a determined character, who fights for the survival of her family by selling matches on the streets of Victorian London. After an incident leaves her with only three matches left, the magical strike of each one sees her tumble into a vision of a brighter future. She then realises that she has the power to change her own future and so leads the factory workers out on strike, striving for better working conditions for her family and community.
A brilliant re-telling of the Hans Christian Andersen classic... an absolute treat!
This book is a thoroughly good read - hugely enjoyable! A great choice for lovers of Julia Chapman, Richard Osman and Richard Cole.
Marlow grandee, Sir Peter Bailey, is to marry his nurse, Jenny Page and is having a party at his mansion on the river Thames the day before the wedding.
But during the event, there's a crash from inside the house, and when the Marlow Murder Club rush to investigate, they are shocked to find the groom-to-be crushed to death in his locked study. The Marlow Murder Club decide to find the killer before he or she strikes again..
This is a great book from Death in Paradise creator Robert Thorogood. The book reads at a similar pace to the BBC's crime series, with influences of Agatha Christie and Conan-Doyle. A very clever, witty and entertaining whodunnit with many intriguing twists.
This is one of those books that I devoured in one self-indulgent sitting one Sunday morning!
Edi and Ash have been best friends for over forty years. Since childhood they have been through life's milestones together. Then Edi is diagnosed with terminal cancer and Ash's world changes forever as she throws herself into caring for her best friend, whilst simultaneously trying to process her own feelings of loss. Based in the hospice where Edi is spending her last weeks, this is an honest, funny and heart felt story.
Catherine has written a deeply moving and life affirming novel, and one that is punctuated throughout by great moments of joy. A true celebration of friendship!

"Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning."
"Saving Neverland" by Abi Elphinstone with beautiful illustration from Geraldine Rodriguez is a magical reimagining of the classic Peter Pan tale. Abi has created a fantastical world with a sprinkling of fairy dust. Pardon the pun, but I was hooked from the first page!! Her wonderfully portrayed characters, alongside her amazing narrative are pure escapism. Can Martha and Scruff Pennydrop help Peter Pan save Neverland from Captain Hook's icy curse? I absolutely loved this brilliant new adventure and wholeheartedly recommend it. Give it a read - you'll be glad you did!
Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea.
The ocean is the only place Prince Elian calls home, even though he is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world. His calling? Ridding the world of the menace of the sirens. But when he rescues a drowning woman, it becomes clear that there's more to her than there first appeared.
A reimagining of The Little Mermaid it is, a fairytale it is not. This YA/Teenage book is a cleverly crafted world that could be a blend of Romeo and Juliet with Pirates of the Caribbean.
The story is well paced and has heroism, courage and romance. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys adventure, daring and suspense.
